About the Chorus
What is JP Jubilee?
JP Jubilee, Inc. is a chorus based in Jamaica Plain which provides seniors in Greater Boston with the opportunity to experience the joy of singing and learning in an inclusive community, regardless of musical skill and ability to pay.
Our mission is to:
- Teach singing to people of all skill levels, without auditions and without required dues;
- Build community among seniors;
- Promote seniors’ health, engagement, and learning; and
- Perform for the public and senior-serving community organizations.
Who can join JP Jubilee?
JP Jubilee Chorus is a chorus and singing class for people ages 50+, based in Jamaica Plain. We meet for two semesters each year, 12 weeks in each semester. The fall semester begins in September and the winter semester typically begins in February. We end each semester with a concert for the community.
There are no required fees for membership in JP Jubilee, nor do we require an audition. Seniors from all communities and cities are welcome.
Why JPJ?
JP Jubilee is a blast! We raise the rafters at our classes and concerts because we are having fun. Here is what some of the chorus members have said about being part of JP Jubilee:
“There is something very healthy – physically, mentally and emotionally – about singing with a group and JP Jubilee provides this opportunity. Having daytime rehearsals is a huge plus!”
“Rachel shares her knowledge, enthusiasm, and joy in every class. She believes in our capacity individually and collectively and helps us to strive for the best in all of us. Never want to miss it! What could be better?”
“I love that JP Jubilee offers the opportunity to come together to sing with other people where there are no barriers to joining. The level of engagement, the spirit of joy and fun and the willingness to experiment and learn, and to take (modest) risks are fantastic.”
