What is JP Jubilee?
JP Jubilee is a singing class for people over 50. We are not taking new members while we look for a new director.
Founded in 2013, the group aims to:
–Teach singing to people of all skill levels, without auditions
–Build community among seniors
-Promote seniors’ health, engagement, and learning
–Perform for family, friends and senior-serving community organizations
We have grown from 22 singers in the spring of 2013 to more than 75 members over the last five years. Along the way, we have offered two concerts a year that are free and open to the public. We have also performed at these outreach events. We continue to improve our singing skills, learn more challenging music and enjoy the special bonds and joy that singing with and performing for others creates.
Who can join JP Jubilee?
JP Jubilee Chorus is a singing class for people 50+, based in Jamaica Plain. We meet for two semesters each year, 12 weeks in each semester. The fall semester begins in September and the winter semester begins in February, ending each semester with a concert.
There is no charge or fee for membership in JP Jubilee, nor do we require an audition. Seniors from all communities and cities are welcome.
JP Jubilee is a blast! For many of us, it’s the first “seniors” thing we’ve ever done. We raise the rafters at our concerts. Not only for our singing – which does get better and better – but because we are having fun and it is highly contagious! If we were ever to poll our audiences, they would tell you they left happy. Here is what some of the chorus have said about being part of JP Jubilee:
“There is something very healthy – physically, mentally and emotionally – about singing with a group and Jubilee provides this opportunity. Liz shares her knowledge, enthusiasm, wisdom and joy in every class. I never want to miss it! …what could be better?”
“I love that JP Jubilee offers the opportunity to come together to sing with other people where there are no barriers to joining. The level of engagement, the spirit of joy and fun and the willingness to experiment and learn, and to take (modest) risks are fantastic. It is also great that group members readily share in taking on tasks that make JP Jubilee work.”
